VCCP:

The VCCP Partnership is an integrated communications agency, set up in 2002 by Charles (V), Rooney (C), Adrian (C) and Ian (P) who founded the agency on the principles of simplicity, collaboration, un-preciousness and integration around ideas rather than channels. Their founding client was BT Cellnet, now more commonly known as O2 and the most awarded brand in IPA effectiveness history.

Across the Partnership, we work with a broad spectrum of clients from O2 and comparethemarket.com to easyJet, Canon, Nationwide, Cadbury, the FA and Domino’s on a multitude of briefs, from social media or television adverts to direct mail and web build.

What is VCCP Stat School?

Data is becoming ever more important within the advertising and communications industry, and VCCP is always looking out for fresh numerical talent. For most people, advertising might not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of data-led careers. If you’re good with numbers and want to explore alternative opportunities in the advertising world, then Stat School is for you!

There’s no tea or coffee making during this week. Instead, you’ll get a jam packed 5 days, which will give you a genuine insight into the ways that data drives our industry. From social media to TV campaigns, retail to CRM, and everything in between, you’ll leave the week knowing exactly how integral data is to advertising and comms campaigns.

You’ll have a timetable full of talks from industry leading specialists across major disciplines, armed with all the information required to pull together data-led insights for some of our very own clients and campaigns.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated applicants with a background in numerical subjects. (maths, stats, engineering, science are great but basically anything that means you’re confident with numbers is fine). We’d like you to have a desire to find out more about data in advertising, and a keen interest in finding out where you may fit within the industry. Simple as that, no other requirements!

Who can apply?

  • You have to be 18+
  • You don’t need to have any specific qualifications or experience to be considered, you just need to have a desire to learn, an open-mind and bundles of enthusiasm.
  • People who are passionate, eager to learn and will make the most of this opportunity.
  • We will also be looking for people who like getting their hands dirty, work well in a team and have a passion to win!
  • We actively encourage people from any background to apply. Creative agencies thrive off the fact that their employees come from all walks of life – it often leads to much more interesting ideas and more exciting work.

How do you apply?

It’s simple! Send us your CV, with some information about your studies and any work experience, but instead of a cover letter, we’d like you to answer three questions, using a maximum of 150 words per question.

Remember we are a creative agency, your answers don’t have to be sensible, as long as they’re insightful, interesting or imaginative.

  • What do you think are some ways in which data is used to advertise to you?
  • How would you describe data to someone who has never heard the term?
  • How would you describe yourself to us in numbers?

What We Do

So what do we actually do? We describe ourselves as Transformation Partners. Put simply, we exist to transform the fortunes of our clients.

Success in our book is helping O2 move from 4th to 1st in market share 36 months after launch or helping easyJet’s share price fly from £4 to £14 in 24 months. Don’t get us wrong, we love our creative gongs and we get our fair few, but what really gets us out of bed in the morning is business transformation.

So how do we do it? First up it takes more than glossy advertising as we believe it only works if it all works. Only if a consumer experience is compelling and coherent from initial search query to in-store purchase can we expect to have a transformational impact on a client’s business.

This is why VCCP is a fully integrated creative agency, where over half of us come from non-advertising backgrounds.

VCCP London houses almost 700 staff alone, and is a melting pot of specialists. Some are highly creative, some are more analytical and some are simply brilliant with people. To give you an idea of the kind of skills, knowledge and talents we look for when we recruit, we have detailed just a few of the job roles, below, which make up our award-winning team.

Discover who works at VCCP before you arrive; have a read of the descriptions below to find out what each role involves and the qualifications needed in case you decide to apply for one further down the line.

Account Handlers demonstrate outstanding creative judgement and, working with the planners and our creative department, take responsibility for the highest standard of creative output possible. Their roles vary depending on the specialism they focus on. For example, our Media Account Managers are required to have more of a numerical head and they will need to be happy using software such as excel on a day-to-day basis. Usually, they will have a qualification in something such as Business, Economics or Maths. Plus we have account handlers who are specialists in Social, Retail and ATL (above the line).

Planners have the same natural ability as our account handlers when it comes to communicating with clients and collaborating with our wider agency, but their role is more focused around analysing client data then using the info as a basis for writing tight creative briefs and logical, structured presentations. This type of role would suit someone with a degree (or equivalent) such as Psychology or Economics, or some work experience in a planning department.

Producers focus on specific campaigns and ensure the project is delivered on time and on budget. They are the glue holding each element of the project development together. Much like an account handler they must be natural leaders and communicators, with the ability to soak in detailed and often technical information and then relay it in a way which is easy for others to digest.

Copywriters, Art Directors and Designers are often the most passionate of our workforce. They are the people constantly bringing ideas to the table and challenging the norms of our commercial society. Even at an entry level, we look for people with a strong portfolio of work which gives us a true flavour for someone’s talent. Designers tend to require a relevant qualification, as there is certain software that they will need to be familiar with – even at a junior level – such as the Adobe creative suite.

Analysts and Data Specialists are the people within our team who are at home with numbers, formulas, figures and systems. Whilst traditionally creativity has been at the heart of advertising, we are living in an age whereby data is a key factor in every decision we make. It is essential to us understanding consumer behaviour and therefore carrying out effective work for our clients. Ideally, our Analysts and Data specialists will be qualified in areas such as Sciences or Maths.

The Central Team work behind the scenes to make sure that our business runs like clockwork. This team is made up of Finance, Front of House, Legal, Office Support, New Business, PAs, HR & Recruitment and many more! This is a great place for people who love the idea of working the wonderful world of advertising but don’t fancy our other roles on offer.
