Interested in helping shape a new project to become a peer mentor?
Think2Speak are looking for young people age 13-19 to join our team to develop Think2 our new LGBTQ+ Peer Mentoring project.
Think2 is an online training programme for young people to become peer mentors to support other young people who self-identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. Having access to a trained peer mentor, with knowledge and understanding of some of the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ communities, will create a support network, safe places and build each other’s confidence whilst navigating an ever changing world.
What is the purpose of the Think2 research group?
It is important that this project is led by young people. We’d like to embed a team of young people as researchers in our team who will take an active role in the planning and development of the peer mentoring project. Your role would be to help identify the skills and qualities needed to become a mentor, as well as developing work around the needs of LGBTQ+ young people in schools, colleges and the wider community.
What will I gain from being part of the Think2 research group?
Being instrumental to the design of this project will give you opportunities for self development and social action experience.
- Increased confidence
- Make a difference
- Have fun
- Have your voice heard
- Meet likeminded people
- Make new friends
As a ‘Thank you’ for taking part in the group you will be given £10 per group session attended. This will be given in the form of a voucher after the research group has ended.
What would I have to do?
We’re looking for a small team of young people to apply to join our team, who will then be meeting online weekly. Initially there will be six 1 hour Zoom sessions starting in January 2021.
You’ll be set tasks to complete such as independent research. This might be talking to friends and family, searching for information online, completing a survey in your school or college. No previous experience is required to take part and there will be fun games and quizzes in each of the online sessions, so be prepared for some exciting challenges.
Are there any risks in taking part?
There are no foreseen risks in taking part, however if the subject matters do bring up any personal matters and you do not currently have access to a personal counsellor, you will be able to access one to one support from the Think2Speak team.
Will my information be kept confidential?
All information collected will be kept confidentially and it will be stored according to our Privacy policies. Only the data that is collected from the research will be used for the peer mentoring project and it will not be necessary to identify participants. By agreeing to take part in this project you are giving consent for this information to be stored.
