We all know that having interesting work experience looks great on your CV, but sometimes these opportunities can change your career path, and that’s exactly what happened to Annisa after she shadowed the marketing team at O2!
Before she left college, Annisa wasn’t sure she even wanted to go to uni, but is now studying Business Management at Middlesex University. And, as we all know, a CV full of experience alongside a degree can get you far, so Annisa began looking for ways to get just that through our Opportunities pages. It was there where she found the shadow day opportunities at O2, in particular the ones in the marketing department.
“Even though I’m doing Business Management at university, next year I’m doing a module on marketing so I thought that would be a good way to get a more insight into the area,” she says. And Annisa was lucky enough to be picked for not one, but two different work shadow experiences within O2; firstly shadowing the Innovation Team, then spending a day with Sam Honey, the Head of Pay Monthly.
“It has increased my knowledge and confidence, but I think what I learnt most was that marketing is a really big department and there a lot of opportunities within it. My focus is definitely on marketing at the moment, but it wasn’t what I originally wanted to do so now I’m more open to other things,” she says. With that in mind, next year Annisa hopes to do a placement year as part of her uni course so that she can try out her skills and find new ones in areas such as PR or advertising, so that she can see what I’m best at and get a wider understanding of each area.
But most importantly, we asked her what she thinks you should do when looking at the range of amazing experiences we have on offer…
“Just go for it because you never know, even with work shadowing. When applying you need to show the skills you have that are relevant to the opportunity”; we couldn’t have said it better ourselves!
So what are you lot waiting for? Starting hitting that apply now button like there’s nothing to lose!
